Our PTA has used both Boosterthon and Apex for our Jog-a-Thon fundraising event. Below is a
detailed comparison of both programs based on our experiences, including financial impact,
volunteer workload, student engagement, and overall effectiveness.
A detailed financial analysis of the last two years highlights the significant gains achieved by using
Apex over Boosterthon.
Additionally, volunteer hours and prize donations were factored into the analysis:
Last Year (Boosterthon): PTA volunteers contributed an estimated total of hours (7 committee members with approximately 20 hours each), valued at $3,500 (at $25/hour), plus an additional $2,000 in PTA-funded raffle prizes.
This Year (Apex): Significantly reduced volunteer effort, with no additional PTA funding or action required for prizes.
Boosterthon required extensive volunteer work, including tracking student goals, managing
raffles, and securing prizes.
Apex significantly reduced volunteer burnout by handling tracking, goal updates, prize
distribution, and student engagement.
Class Competitions: Apex introduced friendly competitions between classes to encourage
participation and teamwork. Winning classes received special incentives, fostering a fun and
engaging atmosphere.
Boosterthon: No structured engagement beyond providing a fundraising website.
Apex: Daily leadership lessons, more inclusive rewards, and incentives for both students and
teachers.
Doing the right thing even when no one is looking.
Being kind.
Setting and achieving personal goals.
Each teacher receives 10% of what their classroom raises.
Teachers earn prizes for encouraging participation.
Boosterthon: Fundraiser with minimal student interaction beyond raising money.
Apex: A high-energy, school-wide experience featuring a pep rally, daily leadership lessons,
interactive activities, and a grand finale where the principal got slimed and the Apex team got
pied as a reward for meeting our fundraising goal.
Apex staff also engaged with students daily by playing with them at recess and providing fun,
non-material rewards like pajama day, extra recess, and bubble dancing.
Apex not only raised significantly more money, but it also:
✅ Required less volunteer work.
✅ Engaged students in meaningful ways.
✅ Provided guaranteed rewards for students.
✅ Offered strong incentives for teachers.
✅ Strengthened school spirit and community involvement.
By switching to Apex, our PTA was able to increase funds raised, reduce the burden on volunteers,
and create a more exciting and educational experience for students and teachers alike.
Based on the financial impact, ease of execution, and overall school engagement, we strongly
recommend continuing with Apex for future Jog-a-Thon fundraising events.
